Travel Tips In order to get from the "mainland" of Canada to Vancouver Island, there are two options: by air, or by water. BC Ferries is the fleet of vessels that handles water traffic - vehicle and foot passengers - for all the islands. The ferry terminal on the mainland for traffic between Vancouver to Victoria is about a 1/2 hour drive from downtown Vancouver, in an area called Tsawassen. These ferries can take hundreds of cars in one sailing, but in the summertime there is so much traffic that travelers regularly have one or two-sailing waits, even with the summer schedule of a ferry every hour. The ferry ride from Tsawassen to Swartz Bay on the Vancouver Island side is about 1-1/2 hours. |
